Secretary Chris Wright is the 17th U.S. Secretary of Energy, sworn in in February 2025 after his nomination by President Donald Trump and a bipartisan Senate confirmation. He leads the Department of Energy’s mission of advancing American energy security, nuclear stewardship, and scientific leadership.

Before joining the cabinet, Wright was the founder, chairman, and CEO of Liberty Energy — one of the largest oil and gas services companies in North America. A pioneer in modern hydraulic fracturing technology, he holds engineering degrees from MIT (bachelor’s in mechanical engineering) and UC Berkeley (master’s in mechanical and electrical engineering).

Wright is a prominent voice in the global energy conversation, advocating for energy abundance, affordability, and the role of fossil fuels and nuclear power in lifting global living standards.
